Thinking about teaching?

Would you like the opportunity to add to your CV by applying to join the Student Associates Scheme at the University of Chichester, and get paid for doing so?

What is the Student Associate Scheme?

The scheme gives you the chance to:

  • explore teaching as a career during 15 days in school
  • receive a training bursary of £40 pounds per day while in school
  • help raise the attainment and aspiration of young people in primary and secondary schools
  • work alongside experienced teachers
  • improve your CV by broadening your personal skills
  • bring your subject knowledge into the classroom to support teaching
  • do work aligned with the standards for qualified teacher status

How does it work?

  • The scheme is open to students from the University of Chichester and other institutions, registered on full-time or part-time programmes of study leading to an HND, a foundation degree, an undergraduate degree or a postgraduate award, including masters and doctorates.
  • The university of Chichester will offer you induction and training to prepare you for a quality school-based placement of 15 days, taken at a time mutually convenient to you and your school.
  • You will be selected on your ability to communicate, motivate children and demonstrate an enthusiasm for your specialist subject, which must be relevant to the school curriculum.
  • There is an emphasis on placements in secondary schools for students who are studying mathematics, physics, chemistry, other sciences, modern languages, ICT, D&T, RE and music, although other subjects may be offered.
  • Primary placements prioritise students whose subject knowledge relates to primary science, mathematics, modern languages or who are from groups under-represented in teaching.
  • All candidates will be subject to a CRB check
  • However, we can also take into account your A levels when identifying your subject area
