Experience

After completing his initial teacher training at Loughborough Tony taught for sixteen years in mainstream secondary schools, including schools in both rural and urban areas in the ‘west country’. As a Head of Physical Education he established professional and sporting exchanges with schools in Germany and France. For several years he was the Advisory Teacher for Physical Education & Outdoor Activities with Northants LEA and since 1993 has been a full time Senior Lecturer at University of Chichester. During his career at the university he has lectured across a range of programmes and modules including BA(QTS) Secondary and Primary ITE programmes, PGCE and aspects of  BSc Sports Science. His academic qualifications include an MA in Education Improvement & Effectiveness from Keele University and a B.Ed in PE & English at Loughborough University. Over the years his work at the university has involved him in running a range of professional development courses for physical education teachers in the UK, Argentina and Austria as well as Coach Education programmes for various Governing Bodies, particularly the Rugby Football Union and the Football Association.

Tony is an experienced OfSTED inspector of secondary schools and active consultant in mainstream secondary physical education.

Interests

He is also an experienced rugby coach having worked with a variety of clubs at national as well as regional level and has a continuing interest and involvement in coach education. In addition the was involved in a number of sports as a performer. Tony has a keen interest in pedagogical Skills across the curriculum, professional Issues and the improvement of schools. He is a Foundation Governor of Hazelwick School.
