Role

Michael is the Head of BA (Hons) Mathematics and Teaching for Key Stages 2 & 3 programme, Subject coordinator PGCE Secondary ICT and a Lecturer on MA Mathematics Education programme

Experience

Over the past 20 years Michael has held mathematics, ICT and music teaching posts in Higher, Further and Secondary educational institutions.  He has worked as a Head of Department in 3 schools and taken on the role of Senior Teacher. Michael led a Leading Mathematics Department in Staffordshire as was a member of the LEAs team of Leading Mathematics Teachers. He has also worked with the consultancy group Hay McBer on their Transforming Learning Project.

Interests

Michael holds a BA Honours in Maths, Music and Classics from Keele University, a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics and an MA in Education Management. He is currently completing an MSc in Research Methods for Education Technology before embarking on PhD research at the University of Bristol.

Michael's research interests include; Links between mathematics, music and other creative art subjects; Statistical literacy of teachers and school leaders; use of performance data in school improvement and the use of music as an aural representation in the mathematics classroom to aid learning.
