Role
Lizzie is a Principal Lecturer with responsibility for standards and quality across teacher education. She teaches on the Core Curriculum English modules and Subject Study English modules on the BA PET, the Primary Post-Graduate and Masters programmes.
Experience
Before joining the university Lizzie worked in primary schools in Portsmouth and West Sussex. Her last school-based job was as Acting Head-teacher of a local primary school. She then moved into the West Sussex Inspection and Advisory service as an Advisory Teacher for English; a role in which she worked with teachers from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage 4 and sixth form. Part of her role was an attachment to the Language in the National Curriculum (LINC) project. Lizzie is also regularly seconded to Ofsted to work as part of their Initial Teacher Training (ITT) inspection teams. Over the last 10 years she has inspected other higher education providers of ITT, School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) Providers and Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) training through Designated Recommending Bodies (DRB). This has been an interesting and rewarding aspect of her work.
Interests
Lizzie is particularly interested in children’s writing and in developing lifelong readers through the use of good quality children’s literature. She is currently working with some of her MA students to develop materials for publication focusing on developing boys’ interest in reading and using talk for effective learning.
