Experience

After graduating from Oxford Polytechnic (now Oxford Brookes), Kate began her teaching in Faringdon Junior School, later becoming Deputy Head there for 3 years. She then took up a post as Advisory Teacher for Humanities with Oxfordshire Advisory Service, which was great experience and a very enjoyable two years.

In 1997, after six years as headteacher at Medmerry Primary School in Selsey, Kate became headteacher at St. James’ Primary School, now Portfield, in Chichester. The school was in challenging circumstances and her period there was demanding but very exciting. During this period she undertook the Leadership Programme for Serving Headteachers. She also continued to support and mentor newly appointed headteachers. Kate has served on the Primary Headteachers’ Executive representing local schools and worked with colleague headteachers in the Chichester Family to plan Inset and other projects for the family of schools. Most recently she was seconded for one day a week to work with West Sussex School Improvement Service (SIS) as a Locality School Improvement Partner responsible for a group of schools in and around Horsham.

She teaches on the humanities modules, in particular the history ones.

Interests

Kate likes to read a lot of modern fiction, had a big garden to tend and enjoys walking and travelling.
