Role

Ruth is Religious Education coordinator for the School of Teacher Education. She is also the subject coordinator for PGCE Secondary RE.

Experience

Ruth taught Religious Education  for seven years is a local comprehensive school. She then joined the University of Chichester and for twenty-three years has contributed to a range of programmes. Currently, Ruth also teaches on the Theology undergraduate programme and is responsible for the modules on World Religions. In addition she teaches on the MA (Ed) programme where she has developed modules addressing Gender and Sexuality in Education and Religion and Spirituality in Education.

Interests

Ruth is particularly interested in pedagogical issues of inclusion and diversity. She has contributed to professional journals exploring aspects of teaching RE.  Ruth wrote her doctoral thesis on aspects of religious language and feminist spirituality. She has published several articles and presented conference papers on this subject. She has also co-authored the Heinemann Think RE series for Key Stage 3 Religious Education.
