Role

Annie is the co-ordinator of the Secondary PGCE. English Subject Study Programme.  She is also a Link Tutor on the Secondary PGCE. and the GTP. 

Experience

Annie taught for 26 years in Hampshire schools and colleges before joining the university.  She was, between 1989 and 2001, Deputy Headteacher of one of our partnership schools with responsibilities for staff development, staff and pupil welfare and child protection.  In the context of her staff development role, she became actively involved in the Chichester partnership, was a member of the Programme Board throughout the 1990s and welcomed the chance to move to her present role when a vacancy occurred.  In her MA. dissertation, she focused upon the changes to teacher education which led to the present structure of PGCE programmes.

Interests

Annie has a particular interest in the poetry and prose of Thomas Hardy and his fictionalised Wessex.  She has also been interested in the development of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre at Bankside and has developed study days on both of these themes for her PGCE. students, designed to help student teachers to recognise the potential for extending the teaching of English beyond the classroom.
