About the course

Science

The Science PGCE route is designed to equip trainees to all science GCSEs, with options to teach their subject specialism to A Level. The subject specific element of the course is delivered in a school setting and trainees join those from the other subject routes for a Professional Studies programme, which is delivered at our Bognor Regis Campus.

Entry Qualifications

Normally candidates will have a degree at 2 (ii) or preferably better in a subject where the content is at least 50% Science. TDA subject knowledge enhancement courses are available and may be advised for some candidates. These options may be discussed at interview. If you are unsure about the suitability of your degree, please contact the course co-ordinator for advice. All candidates must have achieved grade C or above in GCSE English and maths (or equivalent). If you meet the entry requirements you will be invited for interview. All successful applicants will have to obtain an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau, satisfy requirements for provisional registration with the General Teaching Council and complete a satisfactory Medical Declaration before commencement of the course.

How am I assessed?

The course is assessed through observation during teaching placements and three written assignments at Masters Level.

What do our students think?science

"My experience training at Chichester to become a secondary science
teacher
has been positive and rewarding. The course would suit
people who want to work in a friendly supportive atmosphere in nice surroundings. There is excellent communications between staff and
students and the work was carried out in small tight knit groups.  The
standard of training was outstanding and I felt well informed throughout
the year and prepared thoroughly to be an NQT."
