About the Course

The Religious Education route is designed to equip
all trainees to teach Religious Education across key stages 3 and 4 and to A Level. The subject specific element of the course is delivered at our Bognor
Regis Campus. The subject specific sessions are complemented by a Professional Studies programme, which is also based at Bognor Regis.

Entry Qualifications

Normally candidates will have a degree at 2:2 or above in a subject which contains at least 50% of a subject relevant to the teaching of Religious Education. This could include Religious Studies, Theology, Philosophy, Sociology or other appropriate areas of the Humanities. If appropriate, candidates may be referred to an online subject knowledge booster course or an online bridging course to enhance subject knowledge; options may be discussed at interview. If you are unsure about the suitability of your degree, please contact the course co-ordinator for advice. All candidates must have achieved grade C or above in GCSE English and maths (or equivalent). If you meet the entry requirements you will be invited for an interview at University of Chichester. The selection process also includes a presentation to pupils in school. All successful applicants will have to obtain an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau, satisfy requirements for provisional registration with the General Teaching Council and complete a satisfactory Medical Declaration before commencement of the course.

How am I assessed?

The course is assessed through observation during teaching placements and three written assignments.

What do our students think?

RE
"PGCE Secondary RE at Chichester is an excellent course and experience.
The combination of university based time and school placement has meant
that I feel completely ready to start my teaching career. Although it has been
an intensive year the support received from my subject tutor, others on the
course and the school mentors has meant that I have been able to succeed
with outstanding results.

If choosing between Chichester and other universities offering similar courses I would urge you to make it your first choice; I am frequently
thankful that I applied."
