English

About the Course
The English route is designed to equip all students to teach language and literature across Key Stages 3 and 4 of the National Curriculum and to A level. The two subject study modules, which are based at the university’s Bognor Regis campus, involve active learning and all students lead sessions at different points of the year. English studies are complemented by a Professional Studies programme, also at Bognor Regis.
Entry Qualifications
Typically, candidates will have an honours degree with a classification of 2.2 or above. At least fifty per cent of the degree content will have been in English. All candidates must have achieved at least a ‘C’ in GCSE English and maths (or equivalent). If you fulfil the entry requirements, you will be invited for interview at Bognor Regis. All successful applicants will have to obtain an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau, satisfy requirements for provisional registration with the General Teaching Council and complete a satisfactory Medical Declaration before commencement of the course. The subject coordinator welcomes email contact from potential candidates who are unsure about the suitability of their qualifications.
How am I assessed?
The course is assessed through observation during teaching placements and written assignments. To gain a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) students need to complete three 4,000-word assignments at Level M (Postgraduate), two blocks of School Experience and TDA Skills Tests in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT.
Applications
All applications for a PGCE must be made through the GTTR, click here for more details
