Course Structure

PLEASE NOTE:
The MA(Ed) is currently undergoing reapproval and has been designed to enable you to align your Masters study with existing school-based professional learning projects and/or school improvement plans. The proposal for the new programme is to offer two 30 credits modules per academic year. It is anticipated that these changes will take place from February 2012 when modules will be offered over two semesters rather than three terms.
The proposed structure for the new MA(Ed)
The course consists of four 30 credit modules and a dissertation.
The first module is Exploring Research which is compulsory, followed by 3 modules of your own choosing and the dissertation

How long will an MA(Ed) take?
Normally this can be completed in 3 years as follows:
4 semesters - at the rate of a module per semester, plus two semesters for the dissertation. However, you can intermit the programme for a maximum of 2 years over the whole programme, provided that you complete the degree within seven years.
A module is a unit of up to 24 hours taught time, typically over one semester with its own discrete assessment and carrying 30 level 7 credit points. Sessions will normally be delivered between 5.30pm - 8.00pm but times do vary. Centres include the University's Bognor Regis Campus and Hazelwick School, Crawley..
Please see Modules for further details of times and venues.
How will I be assessed?
The new MA(Ed) programme draws on a range of assessment methods including video diaries, practitioner research projects, 6,000 word essays, presentations and so forth. These are followed by an 18,000 word dissertation.
To gain an MA in Education, students need to complete four modules and the dissertation.
You may however, exit the programme after successful completion of two modules with a Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice or after four modules with a Diploma in Professional Practice.
NB: THE EXISTING MA(Ed) STRUCTURE WILL OPERATE FOR CONTINUING STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE 2011-12 ACADEMIC YEAR
