BA (Hons) Mathematics and Teaching for Key Stage Two and Three

The great advantage of this course is that it can prepare you to teach in either primary or secondary schools.

What will it lead to?

After successful completion of the degree the graduate could:

  • be a Mathematics specialist in a Primary School (teaching ages 5-11)
  • be a Mathematics specialist in a Middle School (teaching ages 7-13)
  • be a Mathematics Teacher in a Secondary School (teaching ages 11-16)

What is the course structure?

This course has 5 components:

  • Study of higher level Mathematics
  • Study of the teaching of Mathematics
  • Experience of teaching in schools (at both Key Stages 2 & 3)
  • Preparation to teach the 'core' subjects in Primary School
  • General teaching skills and educational practice.

Do I have to complete three years training?

Mature students with suitable prior learning experience or 'credits' may be eligible for direct entry to Year Two. For this you would typically need to have academic credits equivalent to the first year of a degree course (120 credits) and you would need to show evidence of some suitable experience of working in school(s).
