ICT
This course prepares you to teach in Key Stage 1 and 2 (ages 5- 11).
Students will be able to specialise in one key stage through their final school placement.

Indicative ICT Subject Study Modules
The ICT Specialist modules are designed to further your knowledge of the ways in which technology might be used to enhance the primary curriculum. These are not modules to develop technical skills such as computer networking, but are focussed on teaching and learning.
The use of technology in schools is often controversial and these modules encourage a critical approach to ICT and consider some of the wider issues and impact of technology.

Please note: These course modules are subject to change to meet the needs of the teaching profession.
In year one, 'Teaching the Computer' introduces some of the benefits and challenges of children programming computers in primary schools. We will consider how children can design their own quizzes, animations and games and look at the implications of this for learning and teaching. The short module, 'Publishing for Professional Use' focuses on developing your own use of ICT to support your teaching.
In year two, 'Computer Games in Education' looks at the controversial issue of using computer games in the classroom. We will look at the different ways games are used in schools and critically evaluate their advantages and disadvantages. 'Technologies and Learning' looks beyond the computer to consider the range of technology that schools might use.
In year three, 'ICT and Children' considers some of the wider issues raised by children's use of technology, in particular the internet, at school and at home.
