Drugs, Alcohol and Smoking

stylecurve

Consumption of alcohol and to a lesser extent drug usage and/or smoking, are often regarded by a majority of students as an essential part of the ‘student experience’ and for the most part those students who do choose to ‘imbibe’ do so with seemingly little or no effect on their studies – notice I do not say ‘on their health’!!?. At this point I would recommend that you read and make careful note of the university’s policy on drugs and alcohol.

Health Information

However substance usage becomes a problem if a person:

‘….. experiences physical, psychological, social or legal problems as a consequence of their own repeated use of a substance OR the repeated use of a substance by other persons.’
West Sussex DAAT 2007 .

In other words it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be a ‘user’ to be experiencing problems - the effects of having someone you know or live with drinking, using drugs and / or smoking can be just as problematic.

My role is to help raise awareness and knowledge of these substances and so encourage you to minimise the harm they can potentially do both in the short and long term.
