After graduating from the University of Warwick, Suzanne taught in Japan prior to returning to university to complete an MA in Sport, Culture and Society. She taught in Further Education for five years before completing her PhD in ‘Children’s Experiences of Physical Education’.

Suzanne joined the university teaching staff in 2002. Her main role is as co-ordinator of the university’s PGCE Secondary Physical Education Programme; her teaching focuses on sociological issues within physical education and sport in which she runs an extension study routeway. She also leads PE specialist modules as part of the university’s Masters in Education programme.

The research interests of Suzanne concern children’s experiences of physical education and physical activity. Most recently she is lead researcher evaluating the impact that the Youth Sport Trust’s London 2012 Curriculum Legacy is having on motivation and attainment in art, music, SET and Physical Education.

She is currently external examiner for PGCE Physical Education and Teach First at Christ Church Canterbury University and is an active member of the British Educational Research Association’s special interest group for Physical Education and Sports Pedagogy.

Also involved in narrative work, Dr Suzanne Everley researches children’s experiences of physical education and physical activity within school contexts. She conducts ideographic research utilising drawings, photographs and interviews to understand the basis on which children’s experiences of physical activity are constructed.
