Deputy Head of School

Maggie is Deputy Head of the School of Physical Education and has responsibility for timetabling all staff and students within the school.

She has lectured at Chichester for 18 years and is particularly fond of the University of Chichester having completed her own BEd(Hons) Physical Education degree here. Prior to returning to the University Maggie taught PE for thirteen years in three mainstream secondary schools in West Sussex, during which time she was a Head of Department and a year leader.

Her main enthusiasm has always been for gymnastics and she has also developed experience and qualifications in adventurous activities. She enjoys working in the adventure environment and regularly accompanies field trips with PE students to The Gower, The Lake District and Fontainebleu. Maggie has also spent several years gaining qualifications in paragliding.

For the past few years Maggie has been researching into experiences of adventure which formed the focus of her Doctor of Education thesis. She has presented at the British Sociological Association conferences and has had papers published in the British Journal of Physical Education, The Journal of Adventure Education and Outdoor Learning and the BSA Auto/Biography Journal. She is also a member of the BSA Auto/Biography Study Group.

Maggie has delivered training courses in gymnastics for teachers in the UK and Austria and for several years she delivered and moderated on RSA courses in Exercise to Music. She has fulfilled the role of External Examiner for Bath Spa University College and the University of Edinburgh, and at present is an External Examiner for the BEd(Hons) Physical Education Degree at DeMontfort University and the University of Bedfordshire. Her main practical area of specialism within the School of Physical Education is gymnastics.
