Senior Lecturer

Jane graduated from Loughborough University with a BSc Combined Honours Degree in Physical Education and Sports Science with Ecology and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Physical Education, with Biology as a second subject. Jane then taught for 7 years within secondary schools in the Midlands, including the roles of Head of Department and Deputy Head of Sixth Form, before returning to Loughborough University to complete a MSc Degree in Sports Psychology and Management Studies.

Following this, Jane gained experience in a wider range of schools, including some in the primary sector, as well as management training within the business sector before entering Higher Education, firstly at Brunel and then arriving at the University of Chichester in 1994 as a Senior Lecturer. Jane teaches on the Physical Education and Adventure Education programmes, co-ordinating the sports psychology theoretical modules and with a specialist interest in coaching and netball.

Jane is a BASES Accredited Sports Psychologist (Sports Science Support) and has worked as a consultant with performers and coaches from a range of sports from participation level through to Senior National Performers. She has also worked quite extensively within coach education.

Jane has always been a keen sportswoman herself, enjoying participation and coaching across a range of sports. Most recently this has included coaching the English Universities and British Universities Netball teams. Jane has a passion to improve the provision of teaching and coaching, has been a SportscoachUK tutor since 1990 and is currently working with the All England Netball Association as a tutor and an assessor for their UKCC coach education programme across the region. Her research interests are in psychological aspects of coaching and teaching.
