Dr. Laura Ritchie is senior lecturer in music and the Coordinator of both the Instrumental / Vocal Teaching and the MA in Advanced Performance Programmes.
Her teaching focuses on creating situations where students can apply learning through a self-directed approach. Her recent doctoral research (RCM), explored self-efficacy in music, investigated it within learning and performing, and analysed its application through self-regulated learning.
Current research projects include an intervention study relating self-regulating learning, practice habits, and attainment, self-efficacy beliefs across a range of ages and abilities, and the relationship and influence of contributory factors on perceived musical self-efficacy for a given task.
As a performing artist, Laura has appeared as cello soloist with the University Orchestra, and is a member of the band The Mummers (www.themummers.co.uk).
