Library services operate through the Learning Resources Centre and the John Parry Library at Bognor. Between them they hold over 270,000 books covering the full range of the curriculum. The Bognor Regis campus library specialises in Education, Applied Language Studies, Business Studies, IT, Maths and Tourism. The Bishop Otter LRC specialises in Art, Childhood Studies, Dance, English, History, Management, Media Studies, Music, Physical and Adventure Education, Sport Science, Sport Studies, Sport Therapy and Theology.

The libraries subscribe to over 800 actual and 4,000 online periodicals which enable students to have access to the latest information in their subject. The library service also provides CDs, DVDs, software and document packs. Suitable equipment for playing this material is available at both sites.

Special Collections

Art Slides: Bishop Otter Library contains a collection of 8,000 art slides which are listed on the Art Slide catalogue. These are situated on the second floor of the Learning Resources Centre.

Children’s Resources Collection: marked CR in the catalogue. The collection is located at Bognor Regis and is a collection of school practice materials used in the main by students on school experience.

CTC: collection of the former Chichester Theological College. These are identified by a purple CTC label and are integrated within the Theology section. These are located on the first floor of the Learning Resources Centre at Bishop Otter, with a Reserve stock of more historical material at Bognor.

Documents of Historical Interest: located at Bishop Otter, these include 19th century Parliamentary Papers and Historical Association Pamphlets.

Gerard Young Collection: this local history collection includes photographs, postcards, newspaper cuttings and other documents relating to the Bognor Regis area, which are now located in the West Sussex Record Office in Chichester. An associated book collection is in the Archives area on the Bognor campus.

Ted Walker Archive: located at Bishop Otter on the second floor of the Learning Resources Centre. This contains manuscripts and letters of the Sussex poet and essayist. For further information contact the English Subject Librarian.

Bishop Kemp Collection: the former Bishop of Chichester’s personal collection of ecclesiastical books and pamphlets is also held in the Archives area at Bognor.

Associate Membership Scheme

There are now four categories of Associate Membership, available to all users, on payment of the appropriate annual fee.

Associate Membership A

Annual Fee - £25
This entitles the user to borrow 3 standard loan items but excludes the use of Inter-Library loans.

Associate Membership B

Annual Fee - £50
This entitles the user to borrow 6 standard loan items, which includes Equipment Loans and excludes the use of Inter-Library loans.

Associate Membership C

Annual Fee - £100
This entitles the user to borrow 10 standard loan items as well as a maximum, per annum, of 5 Inter-Library loans.

Associate Membership D (Corporate membership)

Annual Fee £200

This membership is open to organisations such as individual schools, hospitals, local government departments, voluntary agencies and allows a maximum of 10 employees the borrowing entitlement of Category A membership.

For Associate Membership categories the Annual Fee does not entitle use of the open access computer facilities in the University.

Exceptions

The following users may join annually as:

Associate Membership A with no fee:

  • Retired members of University Staff.
  • Students and Staff from other universities registered with the SCONUL Access Scheme.

Associate Member B with no fee:

  • Bursary Students (July – Sept)
  • M Phil (Probationary) Students

Associate Member B with fee of £10 per semester (summer vacation counts as a Semester)

Intermitting Students

Pre-PGCE and Pre-Masters Students

Please fill in a registration form when you come to the library and provide some proof of your address e.g. driving licence. Also, please inform us immediately of any change of address.
