John Macgregor was appointed to the Board of Governors with effect from 1 January 2008. As Dean of the University of Kent in Brussels, responsible for the Institute for Masters and PhD level studies of international relations and law, he brings a wealth of experience from his time in the Diplomatic Service. Between 1997 and his retirement from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, he served in London and New York, India, Prague, Paris, Germany and was appointed Ambassador to Poland in 1998 and more recently to Austria.
John is fluent in French and German with functional Polish and Hindi and collaborated closely with the British Council in developing and fostering university and cultural links between Britain and continental Europe.

He remains a practising musician in his spare time, performing on piano, cello and double bass and establishing in 2003 an annual charity concert for talented diplomat amateurs in the Musikverein, Vienna, with which he is still involved.

In his current post, he draws on his wide experience of change management, administrative reform, reform, diversity and team working. John chairs the University’s Honorary Awards Committee.
