Specialism: Museology; Curatorial Interventions; Non-Western Culture; History of the Victorian Era (mid-late 19th century).

Shirley ChubbShirley’s research involves collaboration with museums and collections across the UK where she produces works in response to specific items, thus prompting a reappraisal of implied understandings of western and non-western cultures. She was co-awarded £34,000 by the Arts Council of England National Touring Programme alongside AHRB funding for a collaborative project with Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery. Titled ‘Thinking Path’, the project responds to the life and work of Charles Darwin and has toured throughout the UK.

In 2007 Shirley gained her PhD at the University of Brighton, entitled: 'Intervention, Location, and Cultural Positioning: working as a contemporary artist curator in British museums'. Recent exhibitions, ‘Drawing on Research’ at The Otter Gallery (2008) and Worthing Museum and Art Gallery ‘Interventions’ responding to the collection of the museum. She is currently working on a project titled 'One Hour' in response to the digital photography archive held by Hampshire Museums Service.

Her work is in public and private collections. Shirley is also a Trustee of Fabrica contemporary art gallery in Brighton.
