Widening Participation

We at Chichester believe passionately that Higher Education should be open to all who have the ability and the potential to benefit from it, regardless of age, ethnicity, disability and family background. We know from our experience that a diverse student group makes for a lively and successful community.

Support for students with a care background
In recognition of the fact that students coming to university from a care background may need additional support whilst at university we have put together our Care Leavers’ package for eligible students.
Each application is considered on an individual basis but generally to be eligible for additional help you usually need to be under the age of 25 and have been in local authority care for three months or more since the age of 14.
The University of Chichester’s package for 2011/2012 for those eligible from a care background consists of:
- Pre application support from the dedicated Care Leavers' Co-ordinator
- A Care Leavers’ Bursary - currently £2,000 per annum payable in two instalments in October and February
- The offer of campus accommodation 365 days a year at the current rate (subject to applications being received by our Admissions Office and Accommodation Office deadlines)
- A named Student Advisor throughout your stay at University to offer additional support if required.
Communication
A dedicated Care Leavers Co-ordinator is the first point of contact with the application process and all communication with the Care Leavers Co-ordinator is strictly confidential through a discreet email address.
