Residential Experience
There is one residential experience in each semester. These provide extended opportunities for students to develop their technical competence and further their understanding of the links between theory and practice. In year one the residential experiences are located in Brittany, where students develop their whitewater and surf kayaking skills, and Fontainebleau, where they further their abilities in rock climbing and lightweight expeditioning.
At the beginning of year two students are introduced to lead climbing whilst in the Peak District. After Christmas, their understanding of environmental issues is developed further in Lanzarote, where they have the option of extending their stay for a further week to undertake further adventurous activities.
The final residential experiences in year four are located in a French ski resort, where students are involved in ice-climbing, snow survival, snowboarding and skiing. The degree culminates with a student led residential that reflects their choice of activity and intended outcomes.
Students make a contribution to the cost of residential experiences, but this is not prohibitive and the programme operates a payment plan.
