Accommodation Information for International Students

University Owned Accommodation
Due to an ever increasing number of students enrolling at University, the demand for University owned accommodation is high. To manage the demand for this type of accommodation the Accommodation Allocation Policy supports first year international students being prioritised.
For the purposes of the Accommodation Policy, International Students are defined as those students whose primary home address is not in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and who are coming to study at University of Chichester for at least one academic year.
Application Process: How to Apply for University Owned Accommodation
International Students must apply for University owned accommodation by 1 August and must pay a non refundable booking fee by 8 August at the latest. If these deadlines are met, then an International student will have access to University owned accommodation.
What happens if you miss this deadline? If you apply after this deadline, then the Accommodation Office can help students find accommodation in the local area. This will be with either a family or a group of other University students in private housing.
When applying for University owned accommodation, please apply on-line through the Admissions Portal before 1st August. The Accommodation Officer is contactable via email: accommodation@chi.ac.uk, telephone: 00 44 (0) 1243 816069 or post: Accommodation Office, College Lane, Chichester. PO19 6PE.
Please state clearly that you are applying as an International Student and include your home address with your application.
The application form must be submitted online by 1 August deadline. Please ensure you select all the accommodation ‘packages’ you would consider, as it is not always possible to offer a student their first choice of accommodation type. The Accommodation Officer (Operations) will allocate rooms at the start of August, so please ensure you pay your booking fee online in early August, once you have been allocated your room.

As an International student, it is important you also consider the following before arrival;
- Please inform us of the time and date of your arrival on campus. We can accommodate international students a week either side of Intake Day; in recognition that many are restricted by transport arrangements. If you plan to arrive outside the hours of 9.00 – 17.00, Monday to Friday, it is essential you inform the Accommodation Officer (Operations) of this fact. Arrangements can be made for you to collect the key at one of the University’s entrance lodges and you will be inducted into your hall the next working day. You will also be welcomed by your Student Hall Rep and/or Block Rep within days of your arrival.
- Two sets of bedding (must be returned at the end of your stay) are provided to all international students to save you having to bring your own items. You may prefer to have your own bedding which can be ordered via the Accommodation Officer (Operations) (see contact details above).
- Crockery and cooking packs can also be ordered from the Accommodation Officer (Operations) to save on suitcase space. Please note the order must be placed immediately after you have been informed whether you have secured a University owned bed space.
On arrival;
- Please ensure you attend the International Students Orientation Sessions organised by the Students’ Union and International Student Adviser (details will be sent to you nearer the time). International Students are encouraged to arrive in time for the International Orientation Programme. This will include day trips and a chance to meet other international students. Please do make the effort to join in as this is a great way to make new friends and settle into the Chichester life style
- If you arrive early you will be require to pay for this period of stay, in advance, up to Intake Day. The Accommodation Officer (Operations) will be able to advise you on this process.
- Please note if you do not take up residence within one week of Intake Day you risk losing your accommodation to another student. Please keep us informed of flight delays etc.
- Please note you will be tied into your licence agreement, after a fortnight, for the ‘period of term’. Please flag up any issues you have with your accommodation soon after arrival; noting anything inaccurate on your inventory form.
- If you do have any difficulty paying your accommodation fees please, do not delay in speaking to either; the Accommodation Officer (Operations), Students’ Union, International Student Adviser or appropriate person in the Finance Department.
Non-University Owned Accommodation
In your first year you may decide that you would prefer to stay in non-university owned accommodation. Certainly in the second year of your study this will have to be arranged as, unfortunately, we do not have sufficient space to offer returning international students a room on campus.
