Fieldtrips

Fieldtrips are an important part of the Tourism Management degree programme, as we firmly believe that in order to fully appreciate the specific aspects of tourism management, you need to actually see them first hand! Our small groups sizes facilitate the inclusion of fieldtrips into specific modules, and residential fieldtrips also form part of the overall degree programme.

Level 1: Devon and Cornwall

A residential fieldtrip to Devon and Cornwall forms part of the Level 1 programme of study. The trip is designed to provide students with an opportunity to look at more distinct regional tourism patterns.

As part of the fieldtrip we look at key issues such as waterfront regeneration in Plymouth, the management of rural tourism environments (Dartmoor National Park), the development and management of visitor attractions (The Eden Project and The National Marine Aquarium), farm-based tourism (Tredethick Farm) and the development of sports tourism (surfing in Newquay).

Local Fieldtrips

Students at Drusilla's Park

In addition to residential fieldtrips we also include fieldtrips within the local area, as part of our undergraduate programme.

Indicative local trips include: East Head (coastal zone management), Queen Elizabeth Country Park (countryside management), Fishers Farm (farm diversification), Drusilla's Park (customer service) and Weald and Downland Open Air Museum (heritage management).
