Professor Sandra JowettAs Pro Vice-Chancellor at the University of Chichester Sandra leads on research, employer and community engagement and international relations.

Sandra has worked as a senior manager and academic in the public and private sector since 1997. She led a broad range of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and corporate service functions at the University of Bedfordshire and Thames Valley University.

Sandra also has extensive research experience, having completed a number of large-scale studies primarily in the fields of education and health. For fifteen years she worked at the National Foundation for Educational Research in England and Wales, mainly on research funded by government departments. She was a member of the teams that completed NFER’s influential work on early years education and on special educational needs and she led the establishment of its health-related research in the early 1990s. Sandra then built on this expertise in her post as Director of Social Policy for a major international research company.

Much of her research has focused on the impact of public services on communities and individuals and she has produced more than 20 research reports, six books and many journal articles and policy papers. She has also disseminated research findings extensively and advised senior policy makers in education, the NHS and central government.

Sandra is a social scientist with degrees from the University of Swansea, Oxford University and King’s College, London. She has served on a number of Advisory Committees and Boards, relating to research and health and education services.
