As Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University, Ian is responsible for the strategic management of the University's major resource functions. These include Finance, Estate Management (including student residences), Human Resources, Information Technology, Library Services, Admissions and Academic Registry, the Support and Information Zone and Planning.


Ian chairs Equality and Diversity Committee, Health and Safety Committee, Space Strategy Group and, in his role as Environmental Champion, the Environment and Sustainable Development Steering Group.


Ian’s objectives for the role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor are to ensure that resources are appropriately aligned so that the University achieves its overall objectives, and that the Professional Service functions are client-focused and provide the best possible support to staff, students, visitors and other stakeholders within the resource available.


Ian graduated with a degree in History from the University of Southampton in 1993, from where he joined IBM as a trainee accountant. In 1997, he joined the University of Southampton, where he undertook a variety of senior finance roles. His final role at Southampton was Senior Management Accountant for the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. In 2004 he became Deputy Finance Director of the University of Sussex, before being appointed Director of Finance at Chichester in 2006.
