Dr Sarah GilroyDr Sarah Gilroy is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of Chichester. Previously she was Pro Vice-Chancellor with a broad range of responsibilities, including learning and teaching, student administration and student support.

Sarah has national experience in quality assurance, modular degree frameworks and programme design.

She began her professional career training to teach physical education prior to moving into University lecturing in sport and physical education, whilst also maintaining a high level of involvement in sport as a coach and participant. She has coached at regional / provincial levels in England and Canada and at international level with England hockey. She is well placed therefore to be the strategic lead for the University on sport; is Chair of Active Sussex (the Sussex County Sport Partnership Trust) and represents the University on the the Culture and Sport Board West Sussex, and the West Sussex 2012 Working Group.

Sarah's academic specialism is the sociology of sport and leisure and the sociology of the body in particular, which has been the focus of her research. From 2001 until 2010 she served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Leisure Studies, which included a three year spell as one of the Journal's managing editors.
